The rail line between Limerick and Ennis, which was closed in January because of flooding at Ballycar near Newmarket-on-Fergus in Co Clare, will reopen for services from tomorrow morning.
The 3.5km section of the line has regularly flooded at Ballycar following heavy winter rain which floods Ballycar Lough and its catchment area.
Iarnród Éireann had carried out extensive works in 2003 and raised the line by 60cm to mitigate against the effects of flooding.
Despite this, flood waters rose to 1.6 metres above the track in recent winters.
The line was closed for 120 days in 2016.
Flooding events have also affected the local water supply in Newmarket-on-Fergus, as well as blocking access to farmlands and local roads.
A test train will drive the line today to ensure its ready for its five daily each-way services from early tomorrow morning.
100,000 commuters use the rail line between Limerick and Galway each year since it was reopened in 2010 serving Sixmilebridge, Gort, Ardrahan, Craughwell, Athenry and Galway city.
