Three men held over €70,000 scam

Three men are being questioned by gardaí in relation to a theft of up to 70,000 from an elderly man in County Limerick.

The three are believed to have been involved in a scam in which they did some painting work at the man's home.

They subsequently pressured him into handing over several sums of money, running to thousands of euro each.

All three men were arrested by detectives from Newcastlewest in Limerick after they met the man in Charleville in County Cork earlier today.

They are being questioned at Newcastlewest and Bruff garda stations on suspicion of theft by deception.

The three men can be held for up to 24 hours.
