The Hunt Museum in Limerick has appointed Dr Jill Cousins as its news director and chief executive.
The museum houses more than 2,000 antiquities and works of art dating back to the Neolithic period.
A native of Wales, Ms Collins has worked for the past 14 years in the Netherlands with the European Foundation, which she created and built up to an organisation employing 62 people with offices in four European locations.
Chair of the Board of the Hunt Museum John Moran said she will bring additional resources, expertise, contacts and experience to develop the museum.
"Jill's pan-European and strong digital and entrepreneurial experiences are exactly the skills we need to enrich the proud tradition and influence of the Hunt Museum," he said.
The museum houses the personal and lifelong collection of art and antiquities belonging to the late John and Gertrude Hunt, who were also associated with the development of heritage sites at the castles at both Craggaunowen and Bunratty in Co Clare.
It attracted more than 112,000 visitors last year.
