A man has been arrested in Cork and charged with raping a child.
The man, who is 21, was brought before the city's district court, following his arrest by Detective Garda Eimear Brennan earlier today.
She told Judge Olann Kelleher that the man made no reply to each of six charges put to him.
He is charged with four charges of raping the child and two counts of sexually assaulting the same girl.
The charges relate to a period between November 2011 and June 2016.
There was no garda objection to the man being released on bail, provided certain conditions were met.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has said the man should be tried on indictment. The case was adjourned to 14 February to allow for the preparation of a book of evidence.
The man was given free legal aid.
For legal reasons, neither the defendant nor the complainant can be identified.
