RNLI lifeboat at Dunmore East in Waterford has been damaged after another boat hit the pontoon to which it was moored.

The accident happened in the harbour in the early hours of the morning, around 1am.

Details are unclear but it appears a large fishing boat was manoeuvring in the dock when it hit the pontoon, causing damage to the lifeboat.

No one was on the lifeboat at the time and nobody was injured in the incident.

Assessors are examining the damage to the lifeboat, which is out of action until further notice.

A temporary replacement lifeboat is being transported from Dún Laoghaire over the weekend.
