The Optel Vision group, based in Limerick, is laying off 12 of its 150 staff at its Raheen plant.

The Canadian company develops and installs specialist vision inspection systems and services, mainly for the pharmaceutical and medical devices industries.

Optel Vision, which has a presence in 15 countries globally, established its first European hub in Limerick.

The company, which was involved in a major recruitment drive earlier this year, says the redundancies are part of a global restructuring programme.
