Homes and businesses evacuated following discovery of IED in Limerick

A number of houses and businesses on the Lower Main Street in Rathkeale, Limerick had to be evacuated this morning after a suspicious device was found outside a house.

Gardaí were called to the scene at around 10.30am. The Army Bomb Disposal team arrived at the scene around 12.15pm.
 
The device was removed for further examination just after 2pm. The Defence Forces have confirmed it is an improvised explosive device. 

Gardaí are investigating the incident.
