A man has died in a work place incident in Co Cork.

The incident happened at Rooves More, outside the village of Coachford, just before 10am.

It is understood that the man was digging a drainage trench at a depth of around 3m when the trench collapsed on him.

Gardaí and emergency services spent several hours at the scene.

Inspectors from the Health and Safety Authority also attended the scene and have begun an investigation.

The man is believed to have been from the area.

His body has been removed to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place tomorrow.
