A large, purpose built bird hide has been installed on Harper's Island in Cork harbour as part of plans to develop the island as a wildlife sanctuary.
Cork harbour is internationally recognised for its wetlands and over 24 waterbird species, including wigeon, and Icelandic black-tailed Godwits, can be found on the small island.

Its development as a public amenity is being funded by Cork County Council, with the support of Glounthaune's Community Association and Birdwatch Ireland.
