An Bord Pleanála has deferred a decision on a controversial planning application for a €160 million waste incinerator in Cork harbour for the fifth time.

The decision was due to be given today.

However a spokesperson for An Bord Pleanála said following submissions responding to further information tendered by waste company Indaver, it was again necessary to defer the decision.

A new provisional date has been set for 12 September.

It is 17 years since the company first sought permission for an incinerator on the site at Ringaskiddy in Cork Harbour.

The application in its current form was first applied for under Strategic Infrastructure Development legislation on 13 January 2016, leading to a 17-day oral hearing in April and May last year.

A decision was due in July 2016, but it has since been deferred five times.
