Water outage to hit Cork city centre

Up to 35,000 people will be affected by a planned shutdown of the water supply to homes and businesses in Cork city centre tonight.

Irish Water say it is to facilitate urgent repair works after a section of an old water main was found to be in a poor condition and at risk of bursting.

This follows a major break in the trunk water main supplying the city last week, which led to water outages of up to seven hours.

The shutdown will take place from 11pm until 7am tomorrow.

Areas affected by the planned shutdown include parts of the city centre, Douglas Road, South Douglas Road, Boreenmanna Road, Blackrock Road, Ballinlough Road, Barrack Street, Bandon Road, Sunday's Well, Leitrim Street, Gerald Griffin Street, Great William O'Brien Street and surrounding areas.
