Thousands of people around Cork city will be without water today after a major pipe burst.

Cork City Council said up to 40,000 residents and businesses will be affected as repairs are under way at the Lee Water Works.

Irish Water said it is likely that water supply will be disrupted in many low-lying areas of the city until at least 6pm.

Areas affected include parts of the city centre, Douglas Road, South Douglas Road, Boreenmanna Road, Blackrock Road, Ballinlough Road, Barrack Street, Bandon Road, Sunday's Well and Leitrim Street.
