Gardaí in Co Clare are continuing their investigation into an assault in Ennistymon yesterday which left a 12-year-old boy hospitalised with a head injury.

It is understood a row developed between three young men on Monastery Road in the centre of the town at around 1.15pm yesterday and the 12-year-old received a head injury when he fell to the ground.

He was taken to a local medical centre at first but later airlifted by air ambulance to University Hospital Limerick when he became unwell.

The boy underwent a number of tests and was detained overnight for observation, but has now been released.

Gardaí carried out a technical examination of the area where the assault happened.

They are also taking a number of witness statements and their inquiries are continuing.
