A 94-year-old man has been injured in an aggravated burglary in Roscrea, Co Tipperary.

The man was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, with a head injury after two men broke into his house on Old Dublin Road at around 11.40pm last night.

His wife, who is in her 80s, was physically uninjured but deeply shocked. She managed to raise the alarm.

The men broke into the house through a side window and a sum of money was taken.

The scene has been preserved and gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to contact Roscrea Garda Station on 0505 24230.
