Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris has joined the foreign ministers of Belgium, Slovenia, Spain and Luxembourg in calling for an urgent vote in the European Council on suspending parts of the EU-Israel trade agreement.
They also want to see sanctions against Hamas, extremist Israeli ministers and violent settlers in the West Bank.
In a letter to EU's High Representative for Foreign Policy Kaja Kallas, Mr Harris called for the suspension and sanctions to be put to a decision as soon as possible.
Later today, Mr Harris will attend a meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the two-State Solution and will deliver Ireland’s national statement at the event.
Mr Harris met EU ministers at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council that took place on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday.
