The UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territory has said that using "normalised language" gives the wrong impression about the situation in Gaza.
Francesca Albanese said that "no one is safe in Gaza" and the plan by Israel is clear, which is "ethnic cleansing".
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, she said: "I think that people get very confused if we continue to use normalising sounding language because it gives the wrong impression."
Ms Albanese condemned the latest strikes as the "acceleration of a total destruction of life in Gaza".
"It's happening in Gaza, but also in the West Bank," she said.
Ms Albanese said: "We should not forget that 1,000 people have been killed in the West Bank since October 2023 and, in Gaza - as people were starting to piece their life together after the ceasefire - 100 people had already been killed, so it's not that this ceasefire had really been effective.
"And now in 48 hours, Israel are resumed carpet bombing over the Strip, killing 400 people."

The Israeli military said its operations extended Israel's control over the Netzarim Corridor, which bisects Gaza, and were a "focused" manoeuvre aimed at creating a partial buffer zone between the north and the south of the enclave.
Israel urged civilians to leave areas it described as "combat zones" and families with young children filled the roads leading out of northern Gaza.
'Not a war'
Ms Albanese described some of the images she has seen of children that have been seriously injured in the bombings.
"Do we understand what it is? It is not a war. This is a total elimination that will continue until the last breath of Palestinian life is gone in Gaza."
She added that she is "surprised" that even in Ireland, "the discussion is always centered, starting from what the Israeli occupation forces say".

Ms Albanese said over 250 UN staff have been killed in Gaza alone since October 2023, and almost 70% of UN premises have been destroyed.
"The UN is considered a terrorist organisation by Israel," she said.
"And we keep on calling it a war. But however, what do I make of the killing of yet another UN official that no one is saving us," she added.
The UN Special Rapporteur said the message is "very clear" and that "no one is safe".
She said that Israeli politicians do not talk about "ethnically cleansing the occupied Palestinian territory".
"It's very clear what they want to do. They want to regain control of Gaza, reoccupy Gaza, resettle Gaza and this is yet another move to do that," Ms Albanese added.
She said that it is important that international law is the benchmark and not what Israel says.
"Israel must withdraw the troops, must dismantle the settlement, must relinquish all form of controls over Palestinian natural resources.
"And states, including Ireland, are obliged to oversee these and make it happen."
