Emergency services were alerted to the blaze just after midday

The owners of the Glenside Hotel near Drogheda have said "everyone is safe and well" following a fire at the property this afternoon.

Meath Fire Service was alerted to the fire shortly after midday.

Crews from Drogheda, Balbriggan and Navan attended the scene at the hotel, which is located just outside Drogheda at Julianstown, Co Meath.

In a post on Facebook, management said the hotel is closed until further notice and all bookings will be contacted as soon as possible.

Meath Fire Service said the fire caused significant damage to a large room on the east side of the building, but crews successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to the remainder of the premises.

It said some areas of the building had sustained smoke and water damage.

The building was evacuated and no injuries were reported.

One fire crew remains on site carrying out dampening down operations and ensuring the safe handover of the building.
