Man held after two robberies in Mullingar

A man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into two robberies at businesses in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, yesterday.

In the first incident, a staff member at a business on Castle Street in the town was threatened.

Nothing was taken during the incident, which occurred at around 4.30pm.

A short time later, a staff member was assaulted at business premises on Canal Court.

Gardaí said property was damaged and a sum of cash was stolen.

A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested a short distance away.

Gardaí said the stolen cash was recovered.
