An infant boy has been seriously injured following a dog attack in Callan, Co Kilkenny.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident, which involved two dogs, at a house in the town at 3pm yesterday afternoon.

The 18-month-old boy was taken to Children's Health Ireland, Crumlin.

His injuries have been described as serious but are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

The scene has been preserved to allow for a technical examination to take place.

Gardaí said that two dogs were removed from the house and arrangements are being made with local veterinary services for them to be euthanised.

Investigations are ongoing.
