A man in his 40s has been arrested after an alleged assault in Carlow town at midday.

Another man, in his 50s, was brought to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny after the incident on the Stapelstown Road.

His injuries are believed to be non life-threatening.

The scene has been sealed off for technical examination and gardaí say their investigation is ongoing.
