Woman airlifted to hospital after dog attack in Carlow

A woman has been seriously injured after being attacked by a dog at a house in Carlow.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the incident at a house in the Ashfield Estate, just outside Carlow Town, this afternoon.

The woman, aged in her late 50s, was taken from the scene by air ambulance to the Mater Hospital in Dublin for treatment of injuries, which gardaí have said are believed to be serious.

It is understood that the dog is an XL Bully, which is a restricted breed.

The services of the local dog warden were requested and the dog was euthanised by a vet at the scene.

Gardaí have said that their investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
