Woman, 80s, dies in hospital following five-vehicle crash last Friday

A woman in her 80s who was involved in a road crash on the Meath-Louth border on Friday has since died in hospital.

Shortly after 11.10am on Friday 19 December, gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving five vehicles on the M1 northbound at Platin, Drogheda, just before the toll bridge.

Three people were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda for treatment. One of them, a woman, aged in her 80s, has since died.

The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make it available to gardaí.
