A man arrested following reports of a motorist armed with a suspected firearm travelling on the M4 motorway near Kilcock in Co Kildare has been charged.
The car was stopped yesterday morning by gardaí in the Tallaght area of Dublin following what they said was a "lengthy managed containment operation".
The driver, a man in his 20s, who was alone in the car, was arrested and an imitation firearm was recovered. Minor damage was caused to two garda vehicles during the course of the incident.
He is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court tomorrow morning at 10.30am.
