A 53-year-old farmer has been charged in connection with an alleged €1.8 million drug seizure in Co Louth.

Around 90kg of cannabis was seized yesterday as part of an intelligence-led operation by Revenue officers, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and members of the Louth Divisional Drugs Unit based in Dundalk.

John Prendergast, of Mill Park, Knockbridge, Co Louth, was brought before Dundalk District Court this morning.

He is charged with the unlawful possession of cannabis and having the drug for sale or supply at Mill Park, Knockbridge, yesterday.

The court heard he made no reply when the charges were put to him under caution.

Mr Prendergast was remanded in custody to appear before Drogheda District Court next Monday.
