A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident in Co Louth that left a garda seriously injured in hospital.
The incident took place just outside the centre of Ardee town in Co Louth in the early hours of Friday morning.
Gardaí were on routine patrol in the Clonmore estate at around 4.20am when they became suspicious of a van that had been parked up.
The two gardaí got out of their patrol car and approached the van on foot before the driver of the van accelerated at the two gardaí, striking one.
The male garda sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
It is understood the garda required surgery on Friday afternoon.
Yesterday evening, a man in his 40s was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run incident.
He is currently being detained at a garda station in the eastern region.
Gardaí also continue to appeal for witnesses to this incident to come forward.
In particular, they are asking anyone who was in the Clonmore area between 4am and 4.40am last Friday morning and may have camera footage to make this footage available to gardaí.
