Two charged over shooting at Tullamore halting site

Two men have appeared in court charged with possessing firearms with the intention to endanger life at a halting site in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

Patrick Ward, 38, from Kilcruttin Halting Site, Tullamore, and 41-year-old John Ward, also of Kilcruttin Halting Site, Tullamore, were both brought before Portlaoise District Court.

They are charged with the offences which allegedly took place at the halting site on 21 March.

Detective Garda Andrew Dolan said when Patrick Ward was arrested charged and cautioned he replied, "no comment" while Detective Garda David Hannon said that when John Ward was arrested, charged and cautioned he made no reply.

Judge Bernadette Owens remanded both men in custody to appear again at Tullamore District Court by video link on 28 April.
