An incident involving a stolen JCB digger in Co Carlow has been reported to GSOC after a device was discharged during the course of a garda pursuit of the vehicle.
A man was arrested following a lengthy pursuit of the vehicle understood to have involved a number of garda vehicles.
Gardaí said they were alerted to the theft of a heavy plant machine this morning.
It is understood that the pursuit went on for a number of hours.
Footage circulated online showed a row of garda squad cars following the JCB down rural roads.
The JCB was subsequently stopped and the man was arrested for alleged offences contrary to the Road Traffic Acts.
Gardaí said that during the course of the pursuit a "less-lethal" device was discharged, striking the vehicle.
The discharge has since been notified to the garda ombudsman.
Anyone with images of video footage of the incident have been asked to make it available to Carlow Garda Station.
