A man has been released from custody without charge following the discovery of a woman's body on board a ferry yesterday evening.

Emergency services were called to the incident at around 5pm yesterday evening.

The ship from Fishguard en route to Rosslare docked in Co Wexford at around 5.30pm.

Gardaí said a post-mortem examination has been completed at Waterford University Hospital.

However, the results are not being released for operational reasons.

A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to engage with and support the family affected.

It is understood the incident is being treated as a personal tragedy.

The Stena Line sailings from Rosslare to Fishguard at 7.30pm last night and the one from Fishguard to Rosslare at 1.30am this morning were both cancelled and passengers were accommodated on Irish Ferries sailings.

The Stena Line 8.15am sailing this morning was also cancelled.

Stena Line said it could not comment as it is a garda matter.
