Tributes from across the Irish film and TV industry have been paid to Martin O'Malley, who died in a fire at his house in Moynalty, Co Meath.
Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene in the north Meath village yesterday morning.
Mr O'Malley, who was aged in his 60s and well known in the Irish film and TV industry, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Dublin native was location manager for the 1991 hit film 'The Commitments' and also played a brief cameo role as a priest in the screen adaptation of Roddy Doyle's novel.
He worked as first assistant director on several films and TV shows, including the 2002 thriller 'Dirty Pretty Things' and the first season of 'Father Ted'.
Mr O'Malley was also the location manager for 'The Crying Game', the 1992 crime thriller film written and directed by Neil Jordan.
In more recent years, Mr O'Malley featured on RTÉ's three-part documentary series 'Back to Barrytown', which, in 2021, celebrated 30 years since the world was first introduced to the fictional Dublin suburb in 'The Commitments'.
Alan Moloney, the Dublin-born award-winning film and television producer, worked with Mr O'Malley as an executive producer on the 1998 mini-series 'Amongst Women'.
Paying tribute, Mr Moloney said: "I knew and worked with Martin for many years and I'm so sad to hear he has died. We worked together on 'Amongst Women', 'A Love Divided' and many others in the 1990s.
"He made a real and positive contribution to the film and TV industry in Ireland, working on iconic productions like 'The Commitments' and 'The Crying Game'."
Mr Moloney, who established Big Things Films in 2022 with Cillian Murphy, went on to say: "He was always so encouraging to people starting out in the industry. My condolences to his family and all who knew him."
In a statement, gardaí confirmed that they had attended the scene of a house fire in Moynalty.
A technical examination of the scene was carried out.
However, it is understood that foul play is not suspected.
