Pedestrian in his 70s dies after being struck by car in Laois

A pedestrian in his 70s has been killed after being struck by a car in Co Laois last night.

The crash occurred on the N80 at Crannagh near Stradbally at around 10.45pm.

The man was pronounced dead a short time after the collision.

His body was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

The female driver of the car, aged in her 30s, was not injured.

The road remains closed pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

They are specifically asking any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were travelling on the N80 at Crannagh in Stradbally, Co Laois between 10.30pm and 11pm yesterday, to make this footage available to them.

The death of the man in Stradbally comes a day after five-year-old Aaron Hussain was killed after being struck by a car in Portlaoise.
