Teen dies after getting into difficulty in water in in Kildare

A teenage boy died in a drowning incident in Co Kildare at the weekend.

The incident happened in the Grand Canal between Ardclough and Celbridge on Saturday evening.

Gardaí said they became aware of a person who had gotten into difficulty in the canal at around 5.40pm.

A number of emergency services attended the scene and the boy's body was recovered from the water a short time later.

The incident occurred at around 5.40pm on Saturday between Ardclough and Celbridge

Gardaí said the local coroner has been notified and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination.
