A woman is receiving treatment for what gardaí have said are "at this time non-life threatening injuries" after an alleged assault on the campus of a hospital.
The incident is understood to have taken place at the Kilcreene Orthopaedic Hospital campus in Co Kilkenny at around 8.30am this morning.
Gardaí attended the scene a short time later, at which point the woman was brought to St Luke's General Hospital in Kilkenny, where she is receiving treatment.
It is understood that no arrest has been made yet, and that gardaí are continuing to search for the alleged culprit.
In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí received report and attended the scene of an alleged incident of assault, which occurred at a medical institution in Kilkenny this morning, Monday 29 April, at approximately 8.30am.
"A woman is receiving treatment at St Luke's General Hospital Carlow/Kilkenny, for injuries believed at this time to be non-life threatening."
The umbrella group for hospitals including Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital in Kilkenny has confirmed it is "fully co-operating" with gardaí after an alleged assault on the campus of the hospital earlier today.
The Ireland East Hospital Group said: "The Ireland East Hospital Group (IEHG) are working with An Garda Síochána following an incident that took place in Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital this morning. Staff and management are fully cooperating with the gardaí and their investigation."
