Athlone Town AFC has reported that vital equipment for streaming its matches was stolen in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The club invested in the system to stream matches during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

In a statement, it said it has once again been the target of a burglarly.

The club said: "In the early hours of January 25th, 2024, our club fell victim to a theft in which electrical equipment valued at approximately €3,000 was stolen.

"This equipment is crucial for our operations, particularly for streaming our matches, which connects us with our supporters.

"This repeated occurrence is extremely disheartening. Our club has always strived to bring our football to as many people as possible and these incidents severely impact our ability to do so."

Club Secretary David Dully said it is the fifth or sixth time the club has been targeted since he has been in the role over the last decade.

Mr Dully said Athlone Town is due to play Shelbourne tomorrow and Longford on Tuesday, and that it was very disappointing they won't be able to stream these matches for their fans.

The club appealed for anyone who may have been in the vicinity of their stadium at around 3am yesterday morning or anyone who might have information about the incident to report it to them or gardaí.

It said: "Furthermore, if you come across individuals selling electrical equipment under suspicious circumstances, we urge you to report it to us or directly to the Gardai in Athlone.

"This is more than just a loss of equipment; it's an attack on the spirit of our club.

"We are determined to overcome this setback and continue our mission of bringing football to our supporters.

"We appreciate any assistance the public can provide in this matter."
