Unions and management at Tara Mines are due to meet to review the temporary closure of the facility.
650 workers were temporarily laid off in mid-July after the mine was placed in a period of "care and maintenance".
Boliden Tara Mines said it took the decision in response to significant and unsustainable losses at the company and that the temporary closure was unavoidable.
The company said that factors including high energy costs, the falling price of zinc and inflation were among the reasons behind its decision to mothball the mine.
There has been no definitive time frame given for the period of care and maintenance, but unions representing workers previously described it indefinite rather than temporary.
A skeleton staff has continued working at the site to maintain machinery and ensure the mine does not flood.
The majority of workers voted to accept a deal brokered before the Workplace Relations Commission around their terms and conditions during this care and maintenance period.
This included €65 per-week retainer payment and a commitment that staff could return to work on the same terms and conditions when the mine reopens.
It is understood that a number of meetings have taken place between management and representatives during the temporary closure, and the meeting today was scheduled to formally review the care and maintenance arrangement.
