A man is in a serious condition in hospital after sustaining a head injury in an assault at a house in Kilkenny on Sunday night.
The incident happened at The Weir housing estate in the city. Emergency services were called to the scene after a 36-year-old local man was assaulted.
He was brought to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for emergency surgery. His condition was today described as critical but stable.
A man in his 40s, who is from the Kilkenny area, was arrested in the early hours of this morning and brought to Kilkenny Garda Station for questioning.
