The three-year-old girl who died in a road collision in Co Laois has been named locally as Rosaleen McDonagh.

Rosaleen was injured when she was hit by a car on Cosby avenue in the Fairgreen estate in Portlaoise at 1.15pm yesterday.

She was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise, but was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage and who were in the Fairgreen area of Portlaoise yesterday afternoon between 12.45pm and 1.30pm, is asked to make this footage available to gardaí.

Rosaleen was one of two toddlers killed in separate crashes on Irish roads less than 24 hours apart.

On Tuesday night, Tom O'Reilly died along with his grandparents, Bridget and Thomas O'Reilly, after the car they were travelling in hit a wall near Cashel, Co Tipperary.
