An investigation is under way into a serious assault in Co Wexford, during which a man in his 20s had the top of a finger cut off.
The incident happened at the victim's home in Barntown earlier this month.
It is understood a number of people arrived at the house during the evening and assaulted the man.
During the attack, they used an implement to cut off part of one finger.
The victim was treated at Wexford General Hospital for his injuries.
It is understood the piece of finger which was cut off was not recovered.
Gardaí began an investigation into the assault after they became aware of it when the man was in hospital.
The inquiry is believed to be at an advanced stage, but no arrests have yet been made.
Gardaí are examining possible motives for the attack, as well as identifying possible suspects.
