Man dies in Co Kilkenny road crash

A man in his 30s has died and another man was injured in a road crash in Co Kilkenny in the early hours of this morning.

The man died after the car he was driving struck a stone wall in Clomantagh, Freshford, at around 1.30am.

His body has since been removed to University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out.

A second man, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to UHW with non-life threatening injuries.

No other vehicles were involved.

The road remains closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, or any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling in the area between 1am and 1.30am, to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
