A well-known midlands landmark was brought crashing to the ground earlier today.
One of the tallest man made structures in Ireland, the 296m RTÉ medium wave radio transmitter at Ballycommon near Tullamore, Co Offaly, was built in the early 1970s.
It was used to transmit medium wave radio from the mid-1970s up to 2008.
The tower was taken down in a controlled explosion.
