The new Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois Paul Connell has been ordained at St Mel's Cathedral, Longford, this afternoon.
Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland Eamon Martin was the principal consecrator for the Mass.
Father Michael McGrath of St Mel's Parish in Longford said the homily, and St Mel’s Cathedral Choir performed music throughout the liturgy.
A native of Mullingar, Paul Connell was announced as the new Bishop of the Diocese in April.
The diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, which takes in parts of Westmeath, Offaly, Longford, Leitrim, Cavan and Roscommon has been without a bishop since early last year when Francis Duffy was installed as Archbishop of Tuam.
