A father and son from Dublin have appeared in court charged with burglary as part of a garda investigation targeting a criminal gang involved in impersonations of members of An Garda Síochána.
Andrew Cash, of Whitechurch Heights, Rathfarnham, and his son John Cash, of Labre Park, Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot, were charged with the burglary of a home in Glenmore, Co Kilkenny on 19 February last.
Kilkenny District Court heard that John Cash was arrested and charged today at Kilkenny Garda Station.
He was released on bail on several condition including that he enter a bond for €1,000, live at his home address, observe a curfew between 10pm and 7am, have no contact with witnesses in the case, and not leave Dublin except in the case of a genuine emergency.
He is also to provide gardaí with a contact phone number and inform them if he comes into possession of a vehicle.
The case was adjourned for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions until 22 May when John Cash is to appear before the court again.
Andrew Cash, the court heard, was arrested at 1pm today in Kilkenny Courthouse and later charged at Kilkenny Garda Station.
Gardaí objected to bail being granted on several grounds, including the seriousness of the charge.
Andrew Cash's solicitor Chris Hogan applied for bail for his client.
He said a forensic science report would take some time and his client was prepared to sign on at a garda station if granted bail.
Judge Geraldine Carthy refused bail for Andrew Cash and remanded him in custody to appear before Kilkenny District Court, via video link, next Tuesday.
