Gardaí in Drogheda will attempt to climb the four highest peaks in Ireland over the next four days to raise money for children who are honorary gardaí.

The Little Blue Heroes Foundation will benefit from the efforts of the community policing team at Drogheda Garda Station.

It was set up in 2017 and provides practical and financial assistance to families of children who have serious illnesses in Ireland.

It also grants those children their wish of becoming honorary gardaí - which includes a ceremony, getting a full garda uniform, badges and tours of garda stations.

The eight climbers set off from Drogheda Garda Station at 7am this morning and will attempt to summit the highest peaks in each of the four provinces (Lugnaquilla in Co Wicklow, Carrauntoohil in Co Kerry, Mweelrea in Co Mayo and Slieve Donard in Co Down).

They welcomed two Little Blue Heroes to the station on Friday - Josh O'Hagan and Roisin Conway - who were presented with their centenary medals.
