A man in his 20s was assaulted and pulled from his car in an attempted carjacking at Dún Laoghaire pier yesterday.
It is understood the motorist managed to retrieve the keys from the car and those involved fled from the scene on foot.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident at the west pier car park at around 5.30pm.
Officers on patrol in the area responded and a man in his mid-20s was arrested in connection with the incident.
He was taken to Dún Laoghaire Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He has since been released without charge pending further inquires.
A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations are ongoing.
