Two men have been arrested after cannabis worth more than €1 million was seized in Kilkenny.

The drugs were found during a sting targeting an organised crime group in the Kilkenny area.

Members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, along with Revenue officers from the Customs Service, carried out an intelligence-led operation and found 59kg of cannabis with an estimated street value of €1.18m.

A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and is being held at Kilkenny Garda Station.

A vehicle was later stopped in the Kilkenny area and gardaí arrested a man in his 40s, who is also being held at Kilkenny Garda Station.

Both men are being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.
