Gardaí say they received reports shortly after 1am that a car had veered off the road and hit a ditch between Junction 5 and Junction 6 southbound.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The rod is closed between Junctions 5 and 6 for a technical examination and Local diversions are in place.
