Two men have been injured in a stabbing incident in Carlow.

Gardaí were called to an area on the Barrow Track in Carlow town around 6.45pm yesterday and found two men, aged in their 40s and 50s, with stab wounds.

They were brought to St Luke's General Hospital in Kilkenny where their injuries have been described as "serious".

A man in his 50s was later arrested and is being held at Carlow Garda Station.

The scene, close to Montgomery Street in the town, has been sealed off for a forensic examination.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses, particularly anyone who may have camera footage from the area around the Barrow Track to contact Carlow Garda Station on 059 913 6620 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
