A teenage boy is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after a stabbing in Carlow town early this morning.

The 16-year-old was taken to St Luke's General Hospital in Kilkenny after he was assaulted at a house in The Fairways estate on the Dublin Road.

Another teenager was arrested following the incident, which happened some time after 4am.

It is understood that the victim managed to leave the house on his own and walked a short distance along the road outside, before calling an ambulance himself.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and the 16-year-old was brought to hospital.

Gardaí have sealed off the house and arrested another teenager, who was brought to Carlow Garda Station for questioning.

They are appealing to anyone with information, or who was in The Fairways between 4am and 5am and might have seen anything suspicious, to contact them.
