Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a suspect device in a Drogheda housing estate which led the evacuation of around 20 houses last night.

Gardaí were alerted to the suspicious device in the Moneymore area of the town at around 8.30pm.

The nearby area was evacuated as a precaution and the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was requested to attend.

The device has now been removed by the team for analysis.

A technical examination of the scene will take place today.

There have been numerous incidents in the Moneymore estate over the past two years, as part on an ongoing feud in town.
