Firefighters are tackling a large forest fire near an explosives plant in Clonagh, near Enfield on the Kildare-Meath border.

Irish Air Corps and Coillte helicopters are fighting the blaze, as well as units from Kildare County Council Fire Brigade and locals.

Coillte said it is hoping to contain the fire to its own property, away from the nearby explosives factory.  T

The hot, dry and windy conditions mean a status red fire warning is in place, making it illegal to start any fire, with or without a permit.
