Two motorists were arrested and more than 600 were tested for driving while intoxicated during an overnight garda operation in Co Kildare.

One arrest related to alcohol, and the other to drugs.

Gardaí also seized one car for having no insurance and a taxi was impounded for dangerous defects, while 15 other minor road traffic offences were also reported.

The arrests and seizures were part of Operation Surround, which gardaí say involves a series of high visibility mandatory intoxicant testing.

Gardaí breathalysed hundreds of drivers at 20 checkpoints in Robertstown, Clane, Kilcullen and Naas.
